New to Hervia: JW Anderson

19 Mar 2020

Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson established his label, JW Anderson in 2008. Initially focusing on menswear, the brand's unique design aesthetic offered a modern interpretation of masculinity and femininity by creating thought-provoking silhouettes through a conscious cross-pollination between menswear and womenswear elements. This idiosyncratic perspective, which earned the label a cult following, prompted JW Anderson to present a women’s capsule collection in 2010.

Anderson spoke to Vice about his latest Spring Summer 2020 collection, saying “There's no underlying message to the show. We want to find meaning in everything, but maybe we should just enjoy the idea of experience, find pleasure in looking. Maybe that's enough?” He described the looks of the show as subtle exaggerations and distortions. Oversized trousers, elongated draping sleeves, elegant coats with contrasting lapels, all subtle but highly effective in creating a unique aesthetic.
