NY Fashion Week Approaches...
Each year New York fashion week continues to deliver some of the annual fashion calendars highlights and it is expected this year will be no different with a stampede of editors, bloggers, stylists, and photographers clamoring to cover it. With just over a month to go, the week itself runs from September 8th to Thursday, September 15th, designers everywhere will be working non-stop making sure the Spring/Summer 2017 collections get finished on time. However, no doubt there will always some last minute backstage adjusting with the trusty sewing pin for many. For Men, the fashion week commences the following week on Monday, July 11th to Thursday, July 14th as Paris fashion week has only just recently finished. Despite it being a month away these events are run like a military operation to ensure everything runs smoothly thus the schedule has already been released. The lineup for every single day is hectic and yet features at least one stellar name in its lineup. For example, the first day is rounded off with American superstar designer Tom Ford. The following Monday is perhaps the most anticipated day of the week itself with a wide range of names all being shown on the one day. The Monday features shows from Rag and Bone, Phillip Lim and Oscar de la Renta, meaning editors and buyers alike will be walking at an Olympic record pace to reach all of the shows. You don’t have to be part of the elite fashion world to feel like an insider as the world of social media allows us to attend all the shows without the unnecessary cardio, as we can binge watch all the shows we want from the comfort of our own bed. New York fashion week is always the season highlight for American designers looking to stun the audience on their home turf: both Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren always ensure their New York shows have the wow factor. Although the weeks media focus is usually placed upon these proven designers it is just as much as about new designers and new beginnings; Last year Kanye West Spring Summer shows New York fashion week rocked the fashion world being the only artist to ever show at the week whilst Saint Martins graduate Rie Yamagato provided the weeks strongest knitwear offering. So too it is new beginnings for one of Americas best-known brands: Just this week Calvin Klein announced a new creative director in Raf Simons, the former head of Dior who helped revitalize the brand in his 3-year tenure. With Calvin Klein being in a long, steady decline, this seasons show may be critical in setting the tone for the future as many expect Simons, the master of minimalism himself, to have an immediate effect thus making it the most anticipated show of the week.
