Vinti Andrews: The edgy London label you need to know about
London based brand Vinti Andrews is a collaboration between designers Vinti Tan and Paul Andrews. Sharing the same music and visual influences from British culture, the duo combine creative forces to create playful, contemporary pieces of design. The brands approach to design is adventurous and original, through the reworking of garments and juxtaposition of texture.
The designs include reconstructed garments, detailed applique and high end garments up cycled to create unique and expressive pieces.
Directing their clothing at the 'fashion conscious' individual, the pieces channel a rebellious grunge-glam aesthetic taking inspiration from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Classic denim is pieced with 90's sportswear, vintage tweed is sewn with modern fabrics. The whole collection is edgy and off beat, with relaxed shapes and raw finishes. The collection might provoke a sense of nostalgia for some Brits, with 70's favourite Gizmo making an appearance, and playful milennial phrases applied onto cropped hoodies in bold print.
The real talking piece from the Spring '18 offering is a reworked vintage Yves Saint Laurent Pour Homme Men's suit, with sewn in white organza panels to create a dress. With raw finished hems and overlapping fabric pieces, the overall effect is thrown-together yet still exudes classic style. Sheer organza panels in white with a tonal zip add a contemporary contrast to the traditional fabric, with torn, removed sleeves to add a grungy edge. The outcome is effortless androgenous chic. Due to the vintage nature of this style, the suit fabric varies for each piece.
