Y-3 Fall Winter '19

25 Jun 2019

Yohji Yamamoto's collaboration with Adidas has shown remarkable longevity, with 16 years of history behind them, Y-3 unveiled its latest Fall Winter 2019 collection in the French capital amongst the raw metal and concrete of the Garage Amelot.

This season Y-3's collection has a distinctly vintage aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the 70s, ’80s, and ’90s. Reinterpretations of sportswear classics is a theme throughout the collection, genderless monochromatic varsity jackets and classic crewneck tees all subtly emblazoned with the now iconic Y-3 detailing and Y-O-H-J-I insignia.

The footwear showcased also adhered to the archival aesthetics of the collection, with the Ruben Low drawing from the classic on a '70s court style updated with a more modern and streamlined silhouette. Another notable mention is the Kaiwa in a stunning triple-black colourway with contrasting white branding on the tongue. Though the new collection draws upon the past for design it is by no means derivative, but instead imbues a sense of nostalgia into the collection whilst also retaining its ultra-modern, avante-garde edge.
