Astrid Andersen is Danish Designer based in London; she graduated from The Royal College of Art in London in 2010 and initially received support from Fashion East installations and MANSHOW. She has been showing at LCM as part of the NEWGEN sponsorship program. She proposes collections of exquisite, sport inspired casual-wear, creating a new generation of garments in menswear.
The collections offer both comfort and the ultimate styling in addition to the highest quality as an unmistakable signature of her personal aesthetic and identity. The garments are often inspired by American streetwear and they are crafted blending technical fabrics and vivid colours with sporty shapes and fine luxurious finishes.
She also consults for brands such as Nike and Kopenhagen Fur, always looking for the perfect fusion of the worlds of luxury and sports.
The branding is finding more and more followers in the hip-hop scene, constantly taking inspiration from Kung Fu movies and going more and more global.
The SS16 collection has been inspired by a trip to Shanghai and martial arts signifiers of the VHS era.
Some of the garments feature a Chinese blossom-brocade elaborated in parka or basketball trousers shapes. Baseball, hockey, and basketball shirts are finished with patches of silk brocade ingeniously communicating an opulent kung fu master feel.
Beside this oriental touch the urban vacation of the designer is always strong.
Urbanised sportswear renewed by proposing lush colours, decoration, and expert craftsmanship; urban ‘sports luxe’ is the core Andersen’s code.
"They tell a story with these aprons about where they are from. That's exactly what I want to do with my brand. I want it to feel like it's for a certain type of boy," Andersen explained referring to the traditional values reinterpreted in her collections.
What the designer does is indubitably subversive in a unique way.
