Y-3 Yamamoto embodies the collaboration between luxury design and street style, union between the sportswear brand Adidas and the Japanese design legend Yohji Yamamoto.
After the brands 10th anniversary, this influential partnership keeps more and more popular season on season.
Yohji Yamamoto is an incredibly talented Japanese designer, a legend of fashion design.
The AW 16 collection synthesises the two stylistic emblems of the Nineties: minimalism and rave culture, proposing in this way an original insight of the recently born active-wear and a renewed street-wear vibe.
Yohji Yamamoto accentuated fashion and tailoring but, at the same time, he proposed an unexpectedly darker and more aggressive style in elongated, agile and dynamic silhouettes.
The range is an amalgamation of oversized shapes and matte patterns emanating an urban, even industrial, feel.
The key elements are long tunics and sweaters, for both men and women.
Layering is still a predominant feature, achieved through the juxtaposition of various garments of different lengths.
Many pieces present a modular construction with functional panel of different sizes constituting scarves or shawls.
Another peculiar feature are zips, zips, zips used in pockets, split in two along the garment closure, on the sleeves, not only practical elements, but also decorating pieces with a renewed structural function; some of those in fact were giving the actual shape to the garment.
A muted colour palette dominates the collection: black, white and varying shades of military green and gray, dashes of turquoise and orange provided a nice sense of contrast.
Overall, refined takes on the now-classic Qasa and Pure Boost are revealed, offering at the same time new and futuristic shapes with minimal construction and non-traditional seams.
These essentially cleaner, faster and more modern-looking silhouettes will define the future aesthetic.
